Frequently Asked Questions for Recipients

1. How do I apply for a hamper?

Applications can be made at North Rocky View Community Links (#211, 125 Main Street NW) or the Airdrie Food Bank (20 East Lake Way NE), by calling 403-660-1569, or email the Self Referral Form to us at

2. Who is eligible to receive a hamper?

Staff at North Rocky View Community Links screen their clients for eligibility to this program. Those who are self-referred and referred by the Airdrie Food Bank will be screened by the Hamper Program Screeners. Eligibility is based on income, and you must be a resident of Airdrie, Alberta. Residents of Calgary are not eligible.

Important Information:

  • All applicants will be subject to screening to determine need. Screening will be done in person and you are required to bring all of the following:

    • Government issued ID for all family members (adults and children)
    • Previous 2 months bank statements
    • Previous month utility bill
    • Previous 60 days Income Verification
    • Previous rent/mortgage receipts (if not listed on bank statements).
    • Loan Documentation (if not listed on bank statements).
  • The Airdrie Lioness Club Hamper Foundation reserves the right to refuse a referral/request.  Should you not be approved, we suggest you contact the Airdrie Food Bank for assistance with a food hamper.

3. Once I complete the paperwork when will I get the Christmas Hamper?

Hamper Distribution Day is Sunday, December 15, 2019.

4. What is in a hamper?

Our hampers provide approximately one week of food including food for a Christmas dinner. Hampers typically include one gift/family member.

5. Can I thank the Sponsor of my hamper?

Yes, we encourage you to thank your Sponsor. Please bring a personalized card to your Sponsor to the Hamper Depot on Delivery Day.  We will ensure they get delivered to your Sponsor.

6. Do we deliver hampers?

If circumstances exist that make it impossible for you to pick up your hamper, we can arrange delivery. All hamper deliveries will occur on Saturday, December 14, 2019 between 1:00 and 5:00 pm.

7. Can I include visitors in my family size for the hamper?

No. This Program is intended to serve the residents of a particular household, as qualified through screening.

8. Can I remain anonymous?

Yes, we respect the wishes of our recipient families to remain anonymous.

9. What if my family has special dietary concerns (i.e. diabetic, celiac)?

Please let us know when you apply for your hamper if your family has any special dietary considerations and we will accommodate them as much as possible.

10. What if I have applied for a hamper but haven't heard from anyone at the Airdrie Lioness Adopt-A-Family Christmas Hamper Program?

You will need to do your application and complete your screening process with a Lioness member or Community Links.

Once this process is complete and you have been approved, we will assign your application a hamper number.

A Lioness Member will call you once we have completed our paperwork. You will receive your hamper number and pick up or delivery time.

11. Are the gifts that are included in my hamper wrapped?

Most Sponsors prefer to wrap the gifts they purchase for their adopt-a-family. However, you may receive unwrapped gifts for your children in your hamper.

12. Who do I call if my circumstances change and I can no longer pick up my hamper?
